Scientific Advisors

Christophe Saam

After his studies of electrical engineering at the Lausanne Swiss Federal Institute for Technology, Christophe Saam was in charge of research in the field of holograms used in the manufacture of integrated circuits. In 1990, he became a Search Examiner at the European Patent Office in Berlin, where he learned both the patent law and on-line search techniques in the field of flat screens, error coding and data compression. Upon returning to Switzerland in 1994, Christophe Saam devoted himself to advising clients active in electronics, telecommunications, microtechnology and watchmaking regarding patent matters. Admitted as European Patent Attorney with the European Patent Office, he also studied American patent law in Washington, and was awarded by a diploma of the University of Strasbourg in patent litigation.

In 2010, he was appointed by the Swiss Federal Assembly as part-time judge to the Federal Patent Court.
He is an active member of different Swiss and international professional associations, such as FICPI, VSP, AIPPI, LES, VESPA, and PIUG Christophe Saam contributes a column on intellectual property matters in various economical newspapers.

In 1998, he founded the patent law firm P&TS whose president and managing director he is.
Christophe runs long distances and also enjoys making photographic reports about still unexplored recesses of our planet.

Jean-Marc Leroux

Jean-Marc Leroux trained as a pharmacist and biologist. He has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and was resident in hospitals before becoming General Manager and Chief Innovation Officer of Covance, a drug development unit of Labcorp. Jean-Marc has more than 20 years’ experience of working in various key positions in contract research companies covering preclinical and clinical activities and central laboratory services.

Nikos Stergiopolous

Nikos Stergiopulos received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 1985 and his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Iowa State University, in 1990. Nikos Stergiopulos holds a degree in management of Technology from IMD. He is currently Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Hemodynamics and Cardiovascular Technology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland. He has authored more than 200 publications and holds more than 20 patents in medical technology. In 1998 he co-founded EndoArt, a medical device company, producer of telemetrically powered and controlled implants for the treatment of congenital heart disease and morbid obesity. EndoArt was acquired by Allergan in 2007. In 2010, Nikos founded Rheon Medical, a medical device company producer of adjustable shunts for the surgical treatment of glaucoma. In 2018, Nikos co-founded Comphya, developer of an electrostimulation device for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
